‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’ is the feel-good musical that took the UK by storm, inspired by the true story of a teenager by the name of Jamie Campbell. With an original score by Dan Gillespie Sells and a witty, heartfelt book and lyrics by Tom MacRae, the musical features infectious songs like ‘And You Don’t Even Know It’, ‘The Wall in My Head’, and ‘Out of the Darkness’ blending pop music and high-energy choreography. This show premiered at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in 2017 and quickly transferred to London’s West End before embarking on multiple tours and being adapted into a film in 2021.
Set in Sheffield, this vibrant coming-of-age story follows 16-year-old Jamie New as he overcomes prejudice, bullying, and self-doubt to step into confidently the spotlight in drag. It has become known for it’s uplifting message and themes of individuality, self-expression.
‘I’m a Superstar’ is a shortened version of the phrase ‘I’m a superstar and you don’t even know it’ from the energetic opening number of the show. Sung by the main character, Jamie, this line encapsulates his fierce confidence and dream to be seen despite the judgement and limitations placed on him by others. It’s a declaration of self-worth, ambition, and the hidden potential inside all of us—even when the world doesn’t recognize it yet.
This design uses this quote, inspiration from the Mayfield school crest and Jamie’s bedazzled end of the show look to create a pin that perfectly encapsulates both the character of Jamie and show as a whole!
