‘Shrek’ is the hilarious fairy-tale adventure musical based on the DreamWorks animation film of the same name. Shrek is a grumpy green ogre who lives happily in his swamp, isolated from all those who mock or are fearful of him… which is everyone! When Lord Farquaad, a short-tempered tyrant, evicts the inhabitants of the fairy kingdom from their home, they attempt to find refuge in Shrek’s swampy land. Unimpressed by their invasion of his privacy, Shrek strikes a deal: “If I get your homes back, you give me my home back and leave me alone!” This cranky outsider becomes an unlikely hero as he attempts to regain his previously peaceful swamp, meeting a variety of colourful characters throughout his crazy journey including a talking donkey, a princess with a secret, a cookie with an attitude and a fire-breathing dragon! ‘I Know It’s Today’ is the fourth song in the ‘Shrek’ soundtrack and serves as an introduction to one of the main characters in the story, Princess Fiona. It portrays three versions of the same character at three different ages: as a child, a teenager and as the adult she currently is. Since the age of seven, Fiona has been trapped in a tower, away from people, reading storybooks as her only escape. She impatiently dreams of being saved by a dashing prince as is the case in every fairytale she has ever read and despite the years passing, and the growing difficulty to stay sane, she keep the faith that one day soon her prince will come.
