‘School of Rock’ is the hilarious rock musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Julian Fellowes based on the hit 2003 film of the same name. Making it’s Broadway debut and world premiere in December 2015, starring Alex Brightman and Sierra Boggess, and opening on the West End in November 2016, this musical is known for the insanely talented children that make up the cast and has been enthusiastically received by audiences all around the world!
The story follows Dewey Finn, a failed wannabe rockstar who is currently generating an income from being a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. Dewey seems to be down on his luck until he discovers great musical talent in the children he teaches. He decides to teach them how to rock-and-roll, forming a band from these straight-A students. His goal? To mould them into the perfect rock group in an attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands competition. However, he must do this behind the backs of their parents and the school’s headmistress, making sure not to alert them to this quest…
‘Stick It To The Man’ is the catchy eleventh song in the School of Rock soundtrack. The children Dewey teaches seem to live their lives trapped by rules and the pursuit of academic success, a fact that he believes needs to change. Throughout this song, he convinces the children to “stick it to the man” (aka anything that’s trying to take control of their lives) and take that power back by fighting the system and not letting anything take you down. This quote tells them they alone are the ones with the power to change the rules so they should be their own individuals, questioning things and advocating for what they believe is right.
Inspired by the school logo, Dewey Finn’s trusty electric guitar and featuring this iconic quote, this pin design is the perfect way to celebrate this lively and exciting show!
