‘Mary Poppins’ is the hit feel-good Disney musical known for it’s stunning stagecraft and memorable soundtrack. With music and lyrics by the Sherman Brothers, additional music and lyrics by writing duo Stiles & Drewe, and a script by Julian Fellowes, this musical premiered on the West End in 2004 and made it’s Broadway debut two years later in 2006. Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic 1964 Walt Disney film by the same name, ‘Mary Poppins’ has charmed audiences across the globe. This show has also become a popular choice for school and community productions.

This classic story is set in London, 1910. In a big house on Cherry Tree Lane lives the Banks family who are desperately in need of a nanny. The Banks children, Jane and Michael, have sent yet another caretaker packing due to their misbehaving and cheeky antics leaving their parents at a loss as to what to do next until a mysterious stranger shows up on their doorstep. Just as she is needed, Mary Poppins has magically appeared. With the company of jack-of-all-trades, Bert, she takes the children on magical adventures, teaching them profound lessons including how to value their family and take care of their things. Even the Banks family parents learn that “Anything can happen if you let it.” It’s the perfect mix of magic and music!

Practically Perfect

‘Practically Perfect’ is a song that takes place early in the first act that really introduces us to Mary. The phrase “practically perfect” is a term used frequently to describe Mary Poppins and through this song she uses it to describe her goal for Jane and Michael. A reprise of this song is used in Act 2.
